California LVN IV Therapy & Blood Withdrawal Certification
Take the next step in your nursing career with our comprehensive 36-hour IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification Course.
This course combines convenient online theory with instructor-led, in-person skills training. You will learn the principles of IV therapy and blood withdrawal, practice essential procedures, and demonstrate your skills under the direct supervision of an experienced registered nurse instructor.

Step 1: Complete Your Theory
Begin with the required theory instruction from the convenience of home. You will review IV therapy, blood withdrawal, infection prevention, anatomy and physiology, complications, documentation, patient safety, and the LVN scope of practice.
All assigned online coursework must be completed before attending the in-person skills session. Must attend all live virtual lectures.
Step 2: Attend Hands-On Skills Training
Join us in person for instructor-led practice using IV training equipment and simulation arms. You will receive step-by-step instruction, practice proper technique, and complete your required skills competency check-offs under direct supervision.
Step 3: Complete Your Live Sticks
You must bring a consenting adult volunteer for the live-stick portion of the course. Under the direct supervision of your instructor, you will demonstrate IV insertion and blood withdrawal on a live person.
After successfully completing the theory, examination, skills check-offs, and live-stick requirements, you will receive your course-completion documentation.
Who Can Enroll?
Live-Stick Volunteer Requirements
Each student is responsible for bringing one consenting adult volunteer to the designated live-stick portion of the course.
Your volunteer must:
• Be at least 18 years old
• Bring a valid government-issued photo ID
• Sign the required informed-consent form before participating
• Be willing to have an IV started and blood drawn under direct instructor supervision
• Arrive at the assigned time and remain until the student’s required skills are completed
• Follow all instructor directions during the skills session
For the safety of everyone involved, your volunteer should be generally healthy and should not have a known bleeding disorder, a history of extremely difficult IV access, or a history of fainting during IV insertions or blood draws. Volunteers taking blood-thinning medication should contact us before the class.
Preparing Your Volunteer
Please ask your volunteer to:
• Eat a meal before arriving
• Drink plenty of water beginning the day before the class
• Avoid arriving on an empty stomach
• Wear a short-sleeved or loose-fitting shirt that allows easy access to both arms
• Inform the instructor of any medical concerns before participating
Important Information
Your volunteer may undergo more than one supervised IV insertion or blood-withdrawal procedure. All live-stick procedures are performed under the direct supervision of a qualified registered nurse instructor using appropriate infection-prevention and safety practices.
The instructor has the right to determine whether a volunteer is appropriate for participation. If your volunteer cannot safely participate, you may be required to return with another eligible volunteer before your course requirements can be completed.
Failure to bring an appropriate volunteer at the assigned time may delay completion of your certification course.
